Newbie's GIS / Re: Setting up my datum on garmin mobile..
« on: November 09, 2009, 08:07:16 PM »
Azmi,

First you need to access the preference Tab in MapSource

then use the position tab to change the Coordinate Systems to Kertau 1948 if you are in peneinsular or Timbalai if you are in Sabah/Serawak.

Hope this would help.

Hi Nazmi,

Thanks for joining us.

FYI, your OMNIA will never give you the data in Kertau as it is not meant for this kind of work. Your phone is using NMEA protocol which is set only to WGS84.

You have several ways to do the conversion. One way I could think of is using the mpsource software that comes with the 76 CSx then enter the data in Lat-Long, then change the coordinate system of mapsource into Kertau.

May I know which GIS software are you using?

Thanks.

ArcGIS 8.x / 9.x Core Software / Re: RSO Timbalai, just to confirm
« on: October 28, 2009, 09:03:40 PM »
Hi,

Usually all the parameters would have been included already in the software. All ESRI, MapInfo and Safe Software products can do the conversion from RSO to WGS84 .
As for the CD, I am not sure what is the procedure, you can call ESRI Malaysia at 03-78749930 .
If you are a student, you can get a grant license from Safe Software, just download the software from www.safe.com, than I can help you getting the 1 year grant. Just pm me if you are interested.

Thanks.

ArcGIS 8.x / 9.x Core Software / Re: RSO Timbalai, just to confirm

Hello Ingintahu,

1. May I know which software are you using now?
2. I don't think you can download ArcGIS demo from www.esri.com . I believe you need to request for a demo CD from ESRI Malaysia or the ESRI distributor where ever you are.
3. Are you a student? If yes, which university?

Thanks

Hi Mubin,

Could you please specify one thing, is it ArcView 3.x or ArcGIS-Arcview you are referring to? There is a difference.

Thanks.

MapInfo Professional / Re: security for data mapinfo
« on: October 06, 2009, 07:31:49 PM »
Hi dhot501,

I am not a big user of MapInfo, I do not think that The MIF or TAB file can be set with a password. Just wondering about your application, does it have to be portable with the data distributed together?

Thanks.

Newbie's GIS / Re: GIS in oil and gas... Help.... !!!!
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:18:36 AM »
Hi Fadzly,

Your question is a bit broad. The Oil and Gas industry has many disciplines I would say. Is there anything in specific you are looking for?

Thanks.

Irsyad,

You would need to convert all your data into ESRI Shapefile then work seamlessly with one format, then later on you would be able make the conversion with the said extension using ArcView 3.x.

If not mistaken, MapInfo also has the Cassini coordinate systems as well. Have you checked on that?

Thanks.
