how set up RSO in ER Mapper?
« on: February 16, 2011, 08:15:07 AM »
i am final year student from utm. My final year project is regarding of photogrammetry field and  one of the software where i using was ER Mapper for proceed my data. The projection needed must in RSO, so what information should added or typing into the gdt_data, datum.sp and project.dat in c:ERMapper\gdt_data...

i oni can proceed data in cassini projection now since i have those particular info inside gdt_data, datum.sp and project.dat in c:ERMapper\Gdt_data.

Hi ykuan87,

I have never used ER Mapper, however as plan B, if you are totally lost, I know that FME supports ER Mapper format, so this would be helpful to convert from one coordinate system to another. It supports ER Mapper ERS and ER Mapper ECW formats .

I am not sure if this answer would help you or not.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I missed out one information. Are you re-projecting to Cassini or RSO? If Cassini, which state is it?

Thanks.

if doing in cassini, the state is johor.
however, i knew the parameter that needed to add into the file.

but my problem is i ned RSO projection type...i think the geodetic datum ned to put KERTAU. but the map projection i reli not sure.

I would advice you to transfer all the data to RSO. Yes, for Peninsular Malaysia it is supposed to be Kertau 1948.

Admin, i think i have solved the RSO projection (Datum Kertau) without doing the transformation projection from cassini to RSO. If i use the RSO parameter to builds the kertau datum, the result was better rather than transformation.

ADMIN, did u know much about the differential rectification (Erdas) and rectification (ER Mapper)? which software generally used for mapping nowadays? because i was using both of this photogrammtric software to process of data. However, i oso feel blurred in my problem statement of my thesis because i duno what signnificant material and information need to added in order to support the purpose for doing this thesis...

actually i have discussed them in term of price since both mentioned software are commercial software, but i feels it doesn't make any sense.

I think the problem started when your work seems to be in piece meal i.e. you try to solve immediate problem without looking at the final objective. Can we know what is your objective of the project?

Also, briefly provide us the methodology that you took. Projection, rectification, transformation etc are just processes of getting the data onto a certain reference frame. Frankly I don't understand when you say "RSO parameter to built the kertau datum" ! In map projection you have to define the Datum first before doing the projection and not vice versa.

We hope to help you whenever we can but having short of the objective of the project, we may also be misled by your queries  ;)

Objectives
i.   To produce orthophoto and rectified photo (i.e raster) using differential rectification and rectification techniques respectively.
ii.   To produce digital map (i.e vector map) based on the orthophoto and rectified photo.
iii.   To access the accuracy of the orthophoto, rectified photo and digital map.

i was using erdas8.6 to produce orthophoto and ER Mapper6.4 to produce rectified photo.
