Garmin GPS Communicator and Bing Maps
« on: September 15, 2010, 07:02:56 PM »
Hi there,

I have stopped looking for a while at Bing maps since the content for Malaysia was poor. However, today I have decided to see what I could see on Bing maps and I was surprised! Yes, more roads are available for Kuala Lumpur, and most importantly, once you find the landmark you are looking for , you can just forward it to your Garmin GPS using the Garmin Communicator. It is available for Firefox and IE. It could be downloaded from here.

It is a very interesting tool I must say.

By the way, I forgot to mention that Bing (Microsoft) is using NavTeq maps. It is great to have more competition around. Google Maps, Bing Maps, OVI maps (from nokia); they all offer API's or SDK's and a very exciting development for the GIS industry in Malaysia in particular. Perhaps Google would lower down the price of the use of Google maps from US$10,000.00 to something more affordable.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
