thanks to all who took time to reply my question.

my question was
i have created a shape file with its lat/long in
decimal degrees. now i wish to overlay some other
files on it. when i do it i am not able to see them
overlayed.

the one that worked for me was the one sent in by
vishant. thanks to vishant who asked me to try and
exchange x and y axis over latitude and longitude.
