Thanks to everyone who answered my question on how to have a polygon print with transparent fill. Nearly everyone suggested I load the carto.avp palette into the symbol window. After loading the palette the new fills appear at the bottom of the list and are transparent. carto.avp should have been installed in \ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\symbols. Ciao, Beatrice Eiselt
