Thanks to: Susan Zwillinger, Jim Stafford, Kent Cook, P.G.L. van den Beukel, and Andrew Loughhead. Everyone mentioned one must use the carto.avp or hatch.avp vector-based pallettes in order to get AV to show the transparency when printing, although some said these were raster-based pallettes. The transparency also shows up with other fills when exporting to PostScript, so there's no problem with AV generated PS files, only when AV prints directly to a printer with these non-compliant pallettes. As for the layout of EPS files being turned 90 degrees, the AV help documents this problem under the Printing Troubleshooting topic. When exporting to EPS, leave the printer Page Setup settings (under the File menu) alone, i.e. use the default setting: Portrait. The Page Setup properties under the *Layout* menu will determine the orientation of the output. If you muck with the Page Setup setting under the File menu when exporting, you could change the orientation. I was doing this exclusively. Now I know better. Andrew suggested looking into Image Alchemy which I something I'll have to consider. Original question follows. In a layout, I placed a polygon with a hashed, partially transparent fill over a portion View Frame to shade out some features in the View. It looked fine on screen, but the printed layout had a completely opaque fill without even the hash marks showing. I am printing on an Epson Stylus Color 1160 inkjet printer. I don't think it is a problem with the printer driver. Does anyone know why the polygon isn't transparent on the prinout? 2.) Because of the prior problem, I tried exporting the layout to an EPS file. I opened the EPS file in GSView and it looked fine; the polygon transparent fill came out correct on screen and in print. The only problem is that the layout is supposed to be in landscape orientation, but no matter how I rotate the media or adjust the orientation in GSView, the EPS output insists on orienting itself in portrait upon printing, thereby chopping off half the picture. I have made sure the Layout properties and Print Setup is adjusted to Layout orientation and save the project file before Exporting to EPS. Any clues here? Thanks in advance, Fred Ramsing
