Hi everyone: Below are the responses I received to my original question below: On Sun, 30 Sep 2001, Orhan Gunduz wrote: > Hello everyone, > > Can anybody help me finding a script (for ArcView 3.2) that calculates the > river lengths between two user selected points on a river? "Froggatt, Alice" I find this extension very useful for line data format calculations etc. http://gis.esri.com/arcscripts/details.cfm?CFGRIDKEY=E1CABB79-6C86-11D5-94440050 8B0CB419 Hope you do to! Alice 2. Mike Breiding - Morgantown WV If you clip the river at the desired points you can then use the length measuring tool in Xtools extension http://www.odf.state.or.us/StateForests/sfgis/default.htm#ODF to automatically calculate the length and create a flied in the attribute table. -Mike 3. "Rief, Mike" Try the National Hydrography Dataset-Reach Indexing Tool in the NHD Arcview Toolkit from nhd.usgs.gov. There are a numerous tools available for reach selection, even a point to point selection tool. There is also a measure tool once the segment has been selected/made into an event theme. The NHD data is also available there. It may take a little while to start using, but is probably worthwhile. Connie Leung 4DM Inc has an extension that would do what you want. check out : http://www.4dm-inc.com/tdms.html however, you need to add three themes into the view in order to perform what you want: 1) contour, 2) river centerline & 3) river overbank i hope this help connie 5. Michael Latka Just a thought but couldn't you use network analyst to route between the two points using the river theme as your routing theme. You should then be able to determine the length of each route that you create. If you cannot determine the length then I have a script that should be able to measure each of your routes and return the length in the distance units of your view. I don't know if this is what you were looking for but I thought I'd try anyway. Thanks, Mike Latka TranSearch Group Brampton, Ontario (905) 794-0600 mike@transearchgroup.com
